Recent Enhancements to Vermont Indicators Online
Regular users of this site should recognize some new data and features, as well as some data that is no
longer provided. This page explains these changes.
ADDITIONAL GEOGRAPHIES
The new database structure now completely incorporates Village and Vermont state-level data.
This site now places a priority on data that can be found and compared consistently across geographic levels
(i.e. village, town/city, county, state).
CHANGES IN DATA PROVIDED
New data variables have been added. This decision has been informed by user requests and current trends
and issues in the state.
Conversely, some data has been removed, especially in natural resources, property valuation and public
health. Data removal decisions were driven by a need to serve variables that could be maintained and
updated easily, as well as variables that are consistent and comparable across different geographies, with
a priority on the municipal level. Where
possible, the user has been directed to the source of data that has been removed from this site.
ENHANCED COMPARABILITY
The full inclusion of village and state-level data now allows for broader comparability across geographies.
New features include:
Village profiles also serve data for the surrounding town.
Town/city profiles also serve data for the surrounding county and the entire state.
Town/city and county profiles allow for comparison to another town/city or county, respectively.
NAVIGABILITY CHANGES
Drop-down choice menus no longer require additional clicks to "submit" or "report" buttons.
Data profile theme tables can now be navigated via drop-down menus.
Much of the text through the site has been removed or streamlined.
NEW MAPPING FEATURES
The mapping application associated with Vermont Indicators Online has
been overhauled. It allows users to see many of the profile indicators spatially with the following features:
Improved interface for choosing data layers. Also a new layer list and legend for addition of geographical features
like rivers and roads.
